Small business seminars set

QuickBooks Intermediate with certified instructor Melissa Thomas will be held from 1 to 4:30 p.m.

Free legal advice aids homeowners

The University Of Arkansas School Of Law will conduct free walk-in clinics for Northwest Arkansas homeowners who are facing possible foreclosure in the Fayetteville Public Library’s Leverenz Room starting Thursday and continuing through November.

No appointments are required.

The clinics will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 26, Oct. 10, Oct. 24 and Nov. 7.

University of Arkansas law students and a supervising attorney will be available to provide answers to questions the homeowners have about Arkansas foreclosure law and pending issues with their home mortgage, including possible option for loan modifications or short sales.

The free clinics were made possible with the support of a grant from the Arkansas Attorney General’s Office and are part of the national mortgage settlement.

Alzheimer’s care taught

Aarea families are invited to attend a free Alzheimer’s care training workshop that will be offered in recognition of World Alzheimer’s Month.

The session will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Tuesday at the Pat Walker Center for Seniors, Washington Regional Senior Health Clinic in Fayetteville.

During the workshop, program experts will teach caregivers how to manage behaviors, encourage engagement and care for themselves while caring for their loved one.

Auditions scheduled

for SoNA Singers

The Symphony of Northwest Arkansas will hold auditions for the SoNA Singers Saturday and Oct. 1.

This auditioned group is led by director Terry Hicks, and the ensemble performs choral works, both a cappella and with orchestral accompaniment. It also serves as the anchor of the larger SoNA Chorale, which performs choral masterworks with the symphony, conducted by SoNA music director Paul Haas.

Rehearsals will be held weekly on Sunday afternoons.

Architecture lecture topic

Robert Somol will present a lecture titled “No Need for Architecture” at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Ken and Linda Sue Shollmier Hall, Room 250 of the new Steven L. Anderson Design Center addition of Vol Walker Hall, on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville. It is part of this year’s Fay Jones School ofArchitecture lecture series.

Somol, an internationally recognized design theorist, was appointed director of the school of architecture in the College of Architecture and the Arts at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2007. He currently serves as the interim dean for the college.

His writings focus on modernism and its modes of repetition, the emergence of the diagram in postwar architecture, landscape and interior urbanism, and the development of graphic or cartoon protocols within contemporary architectural practices.

This is the Mort Karp Memorial Lecture, sponsored by Polk Stanley Wilcox Architects.

Zumba classes rescheduled

Some changes are happening to the Zumba classes offered at Bella Vista Village’s Metfield Clubhouse.

Instructor Hillary Sperry is canceling the Tuesday morning Zumba class due to a lack of participation.

The final class will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday. The Thursday morning Zumba classes, which offer low-impact modifications, will continue at 9 a.m. every Thursday, as previously scheduled.

Additionally, Sperry’s Monday and Wednesday evening Zumba classes will now run from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m., effective immediately.

Zumba is an easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired dance fitness. The cost is $3 perclass or $25 for 10 classes when a punch card is purchased.

Class participants, without a photo identification card issued by the Property Owners Association, will be required to pay the Metfield facility fee of $2.25 per class.

Fundraiser aids music foundation

The Mashburn Scholarship Foundation will holdthe End of the Summer Salsa Fundraiser at 7 p.m. Friday at Mermaids restaurant in Fayetteville.

Calle Soul will provide live music. Food and salsa dance lessons will be provided.

Admission is $40. Proceeds benefit the Mashburn Scholarship Foundation.

Crazy Canasta played Thursdays

Crazy Canasta will beplayed at the American Legion building in Bella Vista on the first Thursday of the month. Doors will open at 9:30 a.m., and play will begin at 10 a.m.

There will be a 50/50 drawing and lunch will be available at a reduced cost.
