3 NW organizations get governor awards

Sixteen organizations around the state were presented Arkansas Governor’s Quality Awards during a ceremony Monday in Little Rock attended by more than 300 business and civic leaders. Three awards went to organizations in Northwest Arkansas.

Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks in Fayetteville took top honors, receiving the Governor’s Award for Performance Excellence.

J.V. Manufacturing Inc. of Springdale received an Achievement Level Award.

North Arkansas College in Harrison was among the six winners receiving Commitment Level Awards.

Recipients also got in-depth evaluations of their management systems and written feedback citing strengths and areas for improvement. Industry-specific seminars were held last year for manufacturing, health care and insurance/financial services. The goal of the Governor’s Quality Award Program is to recognize and encourage Arkansas organizations that engage in continuous quality improvements.

Moms on the Farm tour deadline near

The deadline to register for the third annual Moms on the Farm tour is Sept. 30. The free tour includes trips to beef, poultry and dairy farms from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 7. It is hosted by the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture and the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences.

Nonfarm “moms” can register on a first-come firstserved basis because bus seating is limited. Lunch will provided. The tour will begin at the Pauline Whitaker Arena, 1335 W. Knapp St., off Garland Avenue in Fayetteville, about 2 miles north of the University of Arkansas campus.

The goal of the tour is to help mothers understand more about agricultural production, food safety and nutrition, and to let them experience Northwest Arkansas agriculture firsthand.

The tour will conclude with Arkansas CattleWomen Association beef and dairy food cooking demonstrations.

Information about registration can be obtained by calling (870) 688-4247 or emailing [email protected]. Information can also be found at facebook.com/#!/MomsOnThe-FarmTour.
