WASHINGTON - The Army Board has recommended the immediate abandonment of Fort Logan H. Roots at Little Rock, Ark., and 17 other army posts scattered throughout the United States. It is said that the recommendation is the direct result of the recent trip of inspection of the army posts in the South and Southwest by Secretary of War Garrison and General Wood. It will require an act of Congress to abolish Fort Roots and other army posts as proposed and it is certain that congressmen from the states that will be affected will do some lively wire pulling to thwart the plan.

Apparently, it’s going to be BYOB (Bring Your Own Bottle) from now on down at the Eberts Legion clubroom, with only beer for sale at the bar. And gambling is now officially taboo, according to a statement released by the post house committee. Jimmy Karam, Eberts’ commander, is claiming somewhat of a watered-down victory in his fight to rid the post of the evils of drink and gaming. He announced today that as of 7 p.m. yesterday, the post now “assures everyone there is not one drop of liquor at our club room, owned or for sale by our post.”

A raccoon-like animal bit a North Little Rock police officer after the animal climbed inside the officer’s patrol car at a city park, authorities said Saturday. Officer Richard Beaston, 30, was bitten on his right hand by a coatimundi about 2:10 p.m. Friday at North Little Rock’s Burns Park, according to the police report. The coatimundi belongs to Stella Partin, who lives at 5424 McMurtery Drive, a stone’s throw from the park. Beaston saw the critter roaming the park and stopped his car. As Beaston stepped out of his cruiser, the animal climbed inside. Beaston called North Little Rock Animal Control, which contacted Partin to retrieve the animal, named “Shaboo,” from the police car.
