GREENWOOD — Shiloh Christian and Greenwood put together one last shootout in their rivalry on Friday night. At least for a half.

Greenwood had all of the offense in the second half, scoring on three straight possessions to take command in a 55-24 win at Smith-Robinson Stadium.

Greenwood (3-0) will end the 10-year rivalry with a 7-3 edge in a series known for offensive slugfests. The win was also Greenwood’s 41st consecutive victory.

“It was a real interesting game, momentum-wise,” Greenwood coach Rick Jones said. “They made plays, and we made plays. We’ve had some great games. It’s been a great 10-year series with competitive games. I’m going to miss playing those guys.”

Greenwood racked up 319 yards and five touchdowns in the opening two quarters while Shiloh Christian (1-1-1) countered with 301 yards and three scores.

Greenwood needed little time to add to its 34-24 halftime lead, though, with three consecutive short drives.

While Greenwood’s offense was scoring on three straight series, the defense clamped down on the Saints. Shiloh Christian’s offense mustered just 21 plays for 19 yards on its first five possessions of the second half.

Greenwood took a 13-0 lead with touchdowns on its opening two possessions. The two teams went back and forth the rest of the half.

The Saints scored on four of five possessions with quarterback Daniel Shimer running 21 yards for a touchdown and throwing touchdown passes of 5 yards to Kyle Plunkett and 25 yards to Chandler Smith.

The two teams scored five touchdowns in the final 7 minutes, 21 seconds of the first half.

“Our guys came out and competed real well especially the first half,” Saints coach Josh Floyd said. “They had a big play and scored two touchdowns right there. The big thing between our team last year and this year, is we went right back down there and scored and cut it to 10.

“I was real happy with the way we played the first half.”

EXTRA POINTS

w Greenwood quarterback Jabe Burgess finished 25 of 32 for 336 yards and four touchdowns, and ran for two scores.

w Greenwood had 541 yards of offense and 27 first downs, but did throw two interceptions and lose a fumble.

w Shimer threw for 251 yards, hitting 19 of 37 passes, but had just 15 yards in the second half.
