Benton County Officials Briefed On Disaster Aid

Local emergency management officials were briefed Wednesday on the process they must follow to receive state and federal disaster assistance for the Aug. 8 storm and flooding.

Benton County and five other counties were included in a presidential disaster declaration after the Aug. 8 storm and subsequent flooding. According to information presented at Wednesday’s applicant briefing, the disaster declaration covers the period from Aug. 8 through Aug. 14. In addition to Benton County, Madison, Newton, Boone, Carroll and Marion counties are eligible for public assistance under the federal disaster declaration. Robert McGowen, Benton County emergency management director, said that with both state and federal disaster declarations eligible entities may be reimbursed for up to 75 of their costs from federal money and another 12.5 percent of their costs from the state.
