Bikers, Motorists Urged to Slow Down, Watch Out

Police don’t want to see any revving, flashing or crashing as thousands of bikers roll in to Northwest Arkansas this week for the 14th annual Bikes, Blues & BBQ rally.

Always wear a helmet that fits right.
Know your bike’s limits.
Stick to the speed limit.
Don’t tailgate other vehicles.
Use your signals.
Don’t weave through traffic or drive on the shoulder.
Don’t ride in blind spots and always use your headlights.
Tips for Drivers
Look for motorcycles. Because of its smaller profile, a motorcycle is harder to see.
Check blind spots before changing lanes or making turn.
Clearly signal your intentions.
Predict evasive actions.
Give the motorcyclist a full lane of travel.
Be aware of obstructed lines of sight and hazardous road conditions.
Look for the motorcyclist at intersections, when a motorcyclist may be making a left turn.

The 14th annual Bikes, Blues & BBQ motorcycle rally is today through Saturday in Fayetteville. Most vendors, music and events are at venues on Dickson Street; the Washington County Fairgrounds, 2536 N. McConnell Ave.; and the Baum Stadium parking lot, 1255 S. Razorback Road. Rally headquarters is in front of the Walton Arts Center at West Avenue and Dickson Street. Today’s highlights are below. Complete schedules of events and music are available at nwaonline.com.
Parking Lot at Dickson and West
3-11 p.m. — Beer Garden
4-11:30 p.m. — Mainstage Music
Baum Stadium Parking Lot
Noon-5 p.m. — Demo Rides
3-9 p.m. — Beer Garden
Washington County Fairgrounds
5 p.m. to midnight — Beer Garden
8-10 p.m — Music
5 p.m.-Midnight —A shuttle will run from the fairgrounds to Dickson Street. It will leave the fairgrounds on the hour and Dickson Street on the half hour. Fare for non-campers is $5 one way or $8 round trip.
