Campaign Raises $44,354

BENTONVILLE — Eighty-seven donors have given a total of $44,354 to the committee campaigning for a second high school, according to the committee’s first financial report filed late last week.

The report, which covers Aug. 1 through last Thursday, shows donations ranging from $20 to $10,000 to the Vote Yes for Schools 2013 campaign. Jim Walton of Bentonville gave $10,000.

The total raised is more than the $33,000 raised for last year’s campaign to promote a 6.7-mill tax increase to build a second high school. That issue failed, leading to this year’s trimmed-down 2.9-mill version.

“We feel very good about what we’ve raised,” said Dana Davis, chairman of the campaign and president of the Bentonville/Bella Vista Chamber of Commerce.

As of Thursday, the campaign had spent $25,361. It had paid $15,000 to Mark Henry, a Fayetteville-based consultant, and $6,432 to two area radio stations for advertisements. The campaign still had $18,993 to spend.

The millage increase election is next Tuesday. Early voting started Tuesday and continues through Monday.
