Easy day hike set in the woods on Chenal

The Ozark Society’s Pulaski chapter heads back to the woods Saturday, and anyone is welcome to hike with them.

The schedule begins with an easy outing on the Chenal Median Trail in west Little Rock. Day hike leader Steve Heye will meet hikers at 9 a.m. in the Bowman Curve parking lot near the former Buffalo Grill. The group will then carpool to Kohl’s and hike the short wooded trail in the median of Chenal Parkway. Footing will be smooth and hikers won’t need boots, but they should take a water bottle.

Heye asks that those who want to join the walk call (501) 455-2210 or email [email protected] by Friday so he’ll know to wait for them.

He also plans these outings:

Oct. 5, up, over and around Pinnacle Mountain, a moderately difficult three-mile hike.

Nov. 9, five miles of moderately difficult up and down hiking along the Buffalo River Trail.

Dec. 7 and 8, day hiking in the Upper Buffalo Wilderness Area with an option to camp overnight at Steel Creek.

The society also plans many other activities this fall, which are posted in chapter newsletters on the website ozarksociety.net. Ozark Society has six chapters: Sugar Creek in Bentonville; Buffalo River in communities near the Buffalo National River; Highlands in Fayetteville; Mississippi Valley in Jackson, Mo.; Pulaski in Little Rock; and Bayou in northwestern Louisiana.
