Zaxby’s boasts that its food is “indescribably good” and can now add “most craveable” fast-casual restaurant in America to its honors, according to a study by a top food-industry research firm.
The Technomic study disclosed that the most popular restaurants offer unique items that can’t be made at home, along with an excellent and memorable experience.
“Zaxby’s outpaces its fast-casual competitors on craveability,” the report stated. “While it is not surprising that consumers most crave chicken dishes at this chicken [restaurant], Zaxby’s guests also commonly crave its wide variety of signature sauces, calling out specific blends such as the Zax sauce, Tongue Torch sauce and Buffalo sauce.”
Zaxby’s offers nine sauces in all — Wimpy, Tongue Torch, Nuclear, Insane, Original, barbecue, teriyaki, hot honey mustard, and sweet and spicy. Each is made from an original Zaxby’s recipe, and in the early days, all sauces were made right in the store. As business grew, the same recipes were kept, but now the concoctions are bottled and shipped to each store.
Zaxby’s defies the notion that diners can’t have their food both fresh and fast.
“If you want something left off the meal, it is no problem. We make everything to order,” said marketing coordinator Brittney Hillegass.
Each piece of chicken is prepared on site with a house marinade, then breaded and cooked to order.
The thick-cut chicken tenders can be tucked between slices of Texas toast or roughly chopped and layered atop salads. The wings are available both traditional and boneless. One of the most popular menu items, Wings & Things, offers both wings and chicken fingers served with crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast, celery, ranch dressing and Zax sauce.
Zaxby’s also has gained notoriety for its freshly prepared salads. “Zalad” varieties include Caesar, bleu cheese with Buffalo Fingerz or blackened chicken, and House Zalad.
The Cobb Zalad is featured for a limited time and offers mixed greens, grilled chicken, tomatoes, cucumbers, bacon, hard-boiled eggs, fried onions, and cheddar and jack cheeses, with a side of Texas toast.
Side items and “Zappetizers” include onion rings, coleslaw, spicy fried mushrooms, fried white cheddar bites and thin-sliced fried potatoes.
In addition to the classic “craveable” dishes, Zaxby’s is shaking up its menu with a premium line of hand-blended milkshakes. Flavors offered are birthday cake, banana pudding and chocolate cookie.
For a limited time, the Zaxby’s location on North College Avenue will offer a 50 percent discount on milkshakes from 2-6 p.m. on Mondays.
Other promotions that were once limited to a few locations are now served across Northwest Arkansas.
These include 99-cent Nibblers each Tuesday; four Meal Dealz and six cookies for $20 served 5-8 p.m. each Wednesday; and 99-cent kids meals with purchase of a chicken-finger plate or Wings & Things item 3-8 p.m. each Thursday.
Special offers and give-aways are shared through Zaxby’s Twitter and Facebook. Zax Mail Club and Kids Club members receive perks such as a free Meal Dealz, free cookies or free Nibblers. More information is available online at zaxbys.com.
