‘Love’ Is The Common Ground For Every Orientation

Don Eckard’s column of Aug. 17 is titled “A Christian View of Sexuality,” but he clearly considers his to be “the” Christian view. He says those who disagree with him embrace “false precepts,” “false teaching,” lies and a way that “leads to death.” Wow! He believes homosexuals live “a sinful lifestyle” and face “eternal consequences.” Eckard’s beef is with the Rev. Roger Joslin, who represents a large number of us Christians who don’t condemn people for something that isn’t of their choosing. The best and most accurate thing to say is there is a big division among our faith communities on the subject of sexual orientation. A handful of Christian denominations and two of the three branches of Judaism have decided not to discriminate against people because of their sexual orientation, including not withholding ordination because of orientation.
