Country breakfast

set for Monday

The Northeast Benton County Fire-EMS annual Labor Day “country breakfast” fundraiser will be from 7 to 10 a.m. Monday at the NEBCO Community Center, 17823 Marshall St. in Garfield. A complete breakfast of sausage, bacon, ham, eggs, potatoes, pancakes, biscuits and gravy and a drink will be $7 for adults, $4 for kids 5 to 12 and free for children younger than 5.

All proceeds go to NEBCO Emergency Medical Services Advanced Life Support ambulance service.

Flex ’n Stretch

program starts

A new session of the Flex ’n Stretch exercise program will begin Sept. 9 at Highlands Church, 371 Glasgow Road in Bella Vista.

Flex ‘n Stretch is a program of low-impact exercises designed to help maintain flexibility and control in muscles and joints. The class is appropriate for both men and women.

Trained instructors teach this 10-week program, with classes starting at 7:30 a.m.

each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The class is open to everyone. The fee is $45.

Those interested may attend the first week of the session at no cost to sample the class.

Museum plans photo archive

The Fort Smith Museum of History received a Small Museums Grant to purchase a scanner and archival storage supplies for the museum’s extensive collection of artifacts. Using volunteers, interns and staff under the direction of the museum’s curator, the project of scanning and properly storing the invaluable images is under way.

This project is supported in part by a grant from the Arkansas Humanities Council and the Department of Arkansas Heritage.

Community Blood Center of the Ozarks has issued a code yellow alert for A positive, A negative, O negative and O positive blood types.

Hall Cemetery

A chili supper and pie auction fundraiser for Hall Cemetery will start at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Natural Dam Community Center. The fundraiser is to help with this year’s shop payment and maintenance of the cemetery.

Chili, Frito pies and drinks will be served, followed by an auction.

VFW Auxiliary

honors patriots

The VFW Auxiliary 3031 will hold its Patriots Day ceremony at 6 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Rogers airport. They will be honoring all units that helped and died on that tragic day. There will be speakers from the fire and police departments. The VNV/ Legacy veterans will take part in the ceremony, and a candlelight vigil will be held.

Wall of Tiles

honors veterans

The Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks in Fayetteville and Terra Studios will join together to dedicate the Patriot Dreams Wall of Tiles at 2 p.m. Sept. 15.

“Patriot Dreams” mural installation at Terra Studios was created in October 2011 by participants in the 2011 National Veterans Creative Arts Festival. The annual festival is the culmination of the rehabilitation program and celebrates the veterans’ accomplishments in using the creative arts as therapy.

Veteran artists spent the day at Terra Studios participating in art therapy workshops, one of which was painting the tiles for the mural installation constructed by Terra Studios.

The event will be held at Terra Studios at 12103 Hazel Valley Road east of Fayetteville. The public is invited to attend.
