Rogers lawyer acquitted

A U.S. District Court jury in Fort Smith deliberated for just more than an hour Wednesday before acquitting Rogers attorney David Fisher of conspiracy to commit bank fraud.

Fisher was accused of drawing up agreements that misrepresented the value of land for which a $2.16 million loan was sought from First Federal Bank in 2008 and that used $550,000 in loan proceeds for a kickback payment between the seller of the land and his client.

Fisher testified during the three-day trial he knew nothing of the effort to defraud the bank and only drew up the documents his client, the late Gary Combs, directed him to produce.

"I think the jury was very attentive to the evidence and reached a conclusion that the evidence dictated," Fisher attorney Timothy Dudley of Little Rock said after the verdict.
