Nearly 80,000 people cast 1.3 million votes in the survey. The magazine’s readers judged hotels based on their rooms, service, food, location and design.

There are three 21c Hotels in the country. The first opened in Louisville, Ky., in 2006. The second opened in Cincinnati in 2012. The third opened in downtown Bentonville in February. The Cincinnati and Louisville hotels ranked No. 1 and No. 8 in the United States, respectively, in Conde Nast Traveler’s survey, and No. 11 and No. 46 in the world.

The art-themed 21c Museum Hotels was founded by contemporary art collectors Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson. The Bentonville hotel features 12,000 square feet of exhibition, meeting and event space to house rotated, curated exhibitions and lectures. It has 104 rooms.

“We are thrilled that our two newest properties, both of which opened in the past year, have debuted so high on this list and that Louisville continues to rank as a top hotel for its sixth year running,” Wilson said. “Receiving such high honors shows us that guests are looking beyond the typical hotel experience, and that our mission to enhance the travel experience through contemporary art and cultural experiences resonates with travelers near and far.”

In a separate honor announced this week, the Bentonville 21c Museum Hotel ranked No. 1 in the country and No. 4 worldwide on TripAdvisor’s inaugural list of Hot New Hotels. The list recognizes 33 hotels in 18 countries worldwide that opened within the last year. All have earned a minimum of four out of five bubble rating on TripAdvisor, a travel website.

The Refinery Hotel in New York City and the Zero George Street in Charleston, S.C., took second and third place, respectively, in the Hot New Hotels of America list.
