Steven Slagley will be arraigned in Jackson County Circuit Court on Nov. 18, 3rd Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Henry Boyce said.

He said he could not comment further about the case since it was ongoing.

“There were allegations of wrongdoing by a police officer,” Boyce said. “I felt it was necessary to ask for a state police investigation.”

Boyce requested the investigation on Sept. 4 after he received information about assaults against two women at the apartments Slagley manages.

According to an arrest affidavit filed in Jackson Count Circuit Court, state police officers began investigating a claim that Slagley sexually assaulted a woman on Aug. 27 at the Riverview Apartments on Twin Oaks Drive in Tuckerman. The woman told authorities that she moved into the apartments on Aug. 2, and Slagley took cleaning solvents to her on Aug. 27. She said Slagley grabbed her and pulled her into the bedroom, where he assaulted her, the affidavit said.

Slagley was questioned by police on Sept. 13 and told investigators that he had consensual sex with the woman, the affidavit said.

A second woman later told state police that Slagley went to her apartment at the Riverview Apartments and also assaulted her a few days before Aug. 27, the affidavit said. She said she locked herself in her bedroom and told Slagley to leave, the affidavit said.

Slagley was held in the Jackson County jail in Newport in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
