Inaugural Bacon Bowl presented by Petit Jean Meats
Posted: October 13, 2013 at 6 a.m.
The inaugural Bacon Bowl is scheduled to kick off 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Northwest Arkansas Mall.
In addition to bacon sampling, the event will include music, children’s activities and other foods and beverages. There will also be the Great Day Farms egg toss and Petit Jean Meats Pig-Out bacon-eating competitions to entertain the crowd during the festival.
Dallas Cowboys Grill Team featuring grill master, Randy Lann, will be on hand to offer grilling demonstrations. Lann was instrumental in the partnership between the Dallas Cowboys and Petit Jean Meats, who are an official sponsor of the national football team.
Reality TV star Adam Poch, “The Heavy Metal Teddy Bear,” from the show Big Brother Season 13 will be one of the celebrity judges. Poch is a dedicated bacon aficionado and even had a bacon-themed wedding.
The Bacon Bowl will feature competitors testing their culinary skills in creating the best bacon dishes featuring Arkansas’s own Petit Jean Meats bacon. Teams can choose to enter entrée, dessert divisions, or both, with Petit Jean Meats donating bacon for the cooking competition.
Individuals and teams interested in competing can visit baconbowl.net for information and to register. Space is limited, and the deadline to register is Oct. 18.
Winners will receive cash and prizes. The best overall bacon-inspired dish wins a trip to represent the Bacon Bowl at the 6th annual New Orleans Food Fest in March, held in the French Quarter.
Bacon Bowl and Petit Jean Meats supports Youth Bridge, a local non-profit agency that works with northern Arkansas communities to help young people with confidence, education and interpersonal skills to address daily challenges.
Advance tickets are $8 at the Northwest Arkansas Mall in Fayetteville and Macadoodles in Springdale. Tickets will be available at the event for $10. More information is available at facebook.com/thebaconbowl.
