Dinner benefits

Tibetan farmers

FAYETTEVILLE - People Feeding People, a philanthropic program of the Tibetan Cultural Institute of Arkansas, will have a benefit dinner at 6 p.m. Thursday at The Garden Room, 215 W. Dickson St. The dinner, which will help support Tibetan organic farmers living and working in India, will include Indian foods prepared with local ingredients by chefs Jason Henderson and Jerrmy Gawthrop.

Music will be provided by Three Penny Acre, Cutty Rye, Don’t Stop Please and Farmer & the Markets. The event will also include raffle items from local businesses and short talks from local leaders working to sustain the Northwest Arkansas Local Food Network.

The goal of the evening is to raise money for the Tibetan farmers and help end hunger. Tickets are $20; $10 for children under 12 and free for infants. Author to visit Fayetteville church

FAYETTEVILLE - Author Tex Sample will be the featured speaker during a Mc-Michael Lecture Series event at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 224 N. East Ave.

Sample is known for his 1984 book Blue Collar Ministry and more recently for Earthy Mysticism: Spirituality for Unspiritual People. Sample is professor emeritus of church and society at St. Paul School of Theology where he taught for 32 years. He is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church.

He will speak at 7 p.m. Oct. 19. A reception begins at 6. Sample will also speak at 10 a.m. Oct. 20.

Organist to play in Bella Vista

BELLA VISTA - Organist Gail Archer will perform at 3 p.m. Oct. 27 at First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce St.

The concert is part of a 28-city tour and will feature music from Archer’s latest albums, as well as new works by female composers. In addition to her performance schedule, Archer serves as organist at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and director of the music program at Barnard College, which is affiliated with Columbia University in New York, where she conducts the Barnard-Columbia Chorus.
