Downtown Bentonville Inc. formally hires new director

Downtown Bentonville Inc. has formally hired David Deggs as its new director. Full news release:
Bentonville, AR - October 9th, 2013, The Downtown Bentonville, Inc. Board of Directors has formally hired David Deggs as the new Executive Director for the non-profit downtown organization. His official start date is October 28th.
“I appreciate the confidence that the Downtown Bentonville, Inc. Board of Directors has placed in me to lead the organization,” Deggs said, “and I look forward to building upon DBI’s successes from the past six years.”
Deggs added that Bentonville is uniquely positioned to become a national model for community-based cultural and social events, revitalization efforts, and small business development. Upon taking the helm of the organization, Deggs said he will immediately focus on connecting with DBI’s strategic partners to understand the types of programs, events, and initiatives that meet community and economic development needs.
Tim Robinson, President of the DBI Board of Directors, thinks that David has the background, intellectual capacity, and communication skills to lead downtown and the organization into the next phase of growth.
“The Board believes that David will build upon the strong momentum the organization has established over the past several years,” Robinson said, “David is a great fit for this role and we are excited to see where he will lead the organization in the future.”
Deggs moved to Northwest Arkansas in 2008 following a 10 year career in higher education and state government in Louisiana. He served as an assistant professor in the UA College of Education and Health Professions from 2008 to 2011, earning two awards including the college’s Rising STAR Award. He joined GED Testing Service in Washington, D.C. in 2011 and has directed the implementation of a new national testing program aligned to career and college readiness for adult learners. Deggs earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Northwestern State University of Louisiana and his doctorate at Louisiana State University. He has served as a regional and national volunteer for Theta Chi Fraternity for over seven years.
Downtown Bentonville, Inc. is the nonprofit organization formed in 2003 to facilitate the downtown master planning process initiated and led by the City of Bentonville. Over the past several years, the organization’s mission and scope has expanded significantly, mirroring with the expansion of opportunity within the 1,765 acre downtown district.
