Shimer shines as Saints strike early, often

VILONIA - Daniel Shimer threw a 56-yard touchdown pass two plays into Friday’s game at Philip Weaver Stadium.

The Shiloh Christian quarterback was just getting started.

Shimer ran for four touchdowns and threw for three more as Shiloh Christian ran away from the Vilonia Eagles for a 55-20 victory in 5A-West Conference action.

“Daniel is a special player, and he’s getting better every game,” Shiloh Christian Coach Josh Floyd said. “That’s only the fifth game he’s ever started so every game he’s learning something.”

Shimer picked apart the Vilonia defense with his arm in the first half, completing 8 of 12 passes for 200 yards and 3 touchdowns. He burned the Eagles with his running in the second half, rushing for 133 yards and 3 touchdowns in the third quarter.

Shimer completed only 1 of 3 passes in the second half and finished with 214 yards passing.

Shimer scored on runs of 2, 66, 25 and 30 yards. He finished with 238 yards rushing on 19 carries.

“[Shimer] made some good reads in the offense we run,” Floyd said. “Any time you can get a road win in conference it’s a big deal.”

Two plays into the game, Shimer hit junior wide receiver Reed Lowe with a screen pass to the right sideline. Lowe, who finished with five catches for 125 yards, scored 34 seconds into the game and the Saints never trailed.

A week after Morrilton scored 70 points on the Saints, Shiloh Christian (2-2-1, 1-1 5A-West) held Vilonia (1-4, 1-1) to 206 total yards (127 rushing, 79 passing).

MORRILTON - Senior running back Malachai White rushed 22 times for 126 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead the Airedales, ranked No. 5 in Class 5A, to a 5A-West Conference victory.

White scored on a 2-yard run in the first quarter and a 13-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Alma (3-2, 2-0) found itself trailing 7-6 when Toney Hawkins tossed an 18-yard touchdown pass to senior receiver Rashad Criswell in the second quarter for Morrilton (3-2, 1-1).

Alma took back the lead in the third quarter on a 32-yard field goal by Seth Linker.

Heath Fridelle picked up a Devil Dogs fumble and returned it 5 yards for the Airedales’ third touchdown.

Criswell returned the ensuing kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown with 1:50 left to provide the final margin.

GREENBRIER 47, HARRISON 43

GREENBRIER - William Drewer thew a a 16-yard touchdown pass to Joey Brewster with 6:54 left to give Greenbrier the victory over Harrison.

Michael Evert had given Harrison a 43-41 lead on a 7-yard touchdown pass from Brock Humphrey to Silas Huskey with 9:16 left before Greenbrier drove 80 yards in four plays to win the game.

CLARKSVILLE 21, HUNTSVILLE 14

CLARKSVILLE - Brandon Lovell ran for a touchdown and passed for a game-winning score in the fourth quarter to lead the Panthers (2-3, 1-1) to a victory over the Eagles (2-3, 0-2).

Lovell scored on a 24-yard run in the first quarter, and Brian White followed in the third quarter with a 62-yard touchdown run for the Panthers.

Lovell threw a 25-yard pass to Jeffery Graves to secure the victory.
