Health care act

to be discussed

FAYETTEVILLE - “The Affordable Health Care Act: What You Want to Know” will be the topic of discussion at 6 p.m. Wednesday at First United Presbyterian Church. The discussion is part of the church’s Wonderful Wednesday program and begins with dinner at 5:30.

Discussion leaders will be Robert B. Leflar, professor of legal advocacy at the University of Arkansas School of Law and author of Reform of the U.S. Healthcare System: An Overview; and J.P. Peters of Peters Health Care Consultants. Peters is a former government official with expertise in Medicaid regulations, Medicare, Children’s Health Insurance, and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare). She has also been involved in the planning, development and the implementation of the state’s Health Benefits Exchange.

The program will be in the fellowship hall. Dinner reservations can be made by calling the church office at (479) 442-4411 by noon on Tuesday. The public is invited to attend both events. The church is at 695 Calvin St.

Estonian ensemble to play Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE - Heinavanker, a vocal ensemble from Estonia that performs ancient hymns and runic songs of their ancestors with a contemporary approach, will be in concert at 7 p.m. Monday at St.

Paul’s Episcopal Church, 224 N. East Ave.

The first half of the program will include settings of the Ordinary of the Latin Mass interspersed with Estonian folk hymns. The second half will feature runic songs. The name Heinavanker comes from Hieronymus Bosch’s panel painting Haywain Triptych.

The concert, presented by Friends of Music at St. Paul’s, will celebrate the life of Carolyn Ford. Donations to support ovarian cancer research will be accepted.

Christian Scientist

to discuss healing

FAYETTEVILLE - Nate Frederick, a Christian Science practitioner, will discuss “Love’s Divine Adventure: A Three-Part Prayer That Heals,” at 7 p.m. Monday at First Church of Christ, Scientist, 1755 Rolling Hills Drive. The talk is sponsored by the Fayetteville and Rogers Christian Science churches. The public is welcome.

Mary Baker Eddy founded Christian Science and established the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in 1879, in Boston. A Christian Science practitioner provides spiritual treatment through prayer, according to the denomination’s website.
