Griffin backs off tweet sent just after gunfire at Capitol

WASHINGTON — Minutes after the U.S. Capitol was put on lockdown Thursday because of a shooting outside, Rep. Tim Griffin, R-Ark., posted a message on social media, telling President Barack Obama and Democratic leaders to halt “the violent rhetoric.” The Capitol building was locked down at 2:20 p.m. EDT after reports of gunfire outside on the Senate’s side. Griffin’s message was sent at 2:24 p.m. EDT.
