Student, 18, found dead at UCA dorm

CONWAY - A University of Central Arkansas freshman from Faulkner County was found dead Wednesday in a restroom at the residence hall where he lived.

Foul play was not suspected in the death of Jaykwantay Girley, 18, the school announced in a news release.

UCA spokesman Fredricka Sharkey said she could not reveal the student’s hometown because that information was not listed in the student directory, but Faulkner County Coroner Patrick Moore said Girley was from Greenbrier.

Girley was pronounced dead about 8 a.m. after UCA police, along with emergency medical personnel and the Conway Fire Department, responded to a report of an unconscious man in a Hughes Residential Hall restroom, the news release said.

Police and the Faulkner County coroner’s office have requested an autopsy.

“We’ve not uncovered any kind of medical history that would be suspect in his death,” Moore said.

“We extend our deepest sympathy to the family. We need to remember them in our thoughts and prayers,” UCA President Tom Courtway said in a statement.

A Conway minister and counselors from UCA’s student health clinic were scheduled to visit with residents of the dormitory Wednesday night.
