Traffic Stop Near West Fork Nets Marijuana

FAYETTEVILLE — A man who told authorities he was headed to Fayetteville to cut hair for the University of Arkansas football team was arrested Wednesday in connection with felony possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.

According to a preliminary arrest report, Washington County Sheriff’s deputies found more than 10 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of a gray Chevrolet Impala driven by Drancy Arnold, 28, of 113 Filmore St. in Morrilton.

Arnold was driving north near the West Fork exit on Interstate 540 about 10:10 a.m. Wednesday, according to the arrest report. He was pulled over for following a vehicle too closely.

Cpl. T.J. Rennie said in the report he could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the car. Rennie said Arnold told him he was on the way to cut football players’ hair before their game with Louisiana State University.

According to the report, Arnold argued with deputies before getting out of the car and then pulled away when Rennie tried to handcuff him. Rennie said he deployed his stun gun into the back of Arnold’s neck, giving deputies enough time to handcuff the suspect.

One of the stun gun’s probes could not be removed, and Arnold was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center, according to the report.

Rennie said deputies searched the Impala and found 10.3 pounds of marijuana in a black trash bag in the trunk.

Arnold was released Thursday afternoon from the Washington County Detention Center on $3,500 bond.
