Puppies, kitties need help this season, too

Madison County Pet Shelter, Pug Rescue of NWArkansas, For Pet’s Sake, Bella Vista Animal Shelter

As we do every year, NWA Media has invited the nonprofit organizations that help our community all year to ask for help in return.

Their wish lists will appear in the Our Town section every Thursday through Christmas.

Pug Rescue of NWArkansas

What: Pug Rescue is a nonprofit organization which dedicates itself to taking in pugs who for some reason find theirselves homeless through no fault of their own. The rescue operates solely on donations and assistance from other pug lovers.

Madison County Pet Shelter

What: The Madison County Pet Shelter is a nonprofit animal shelter built in 2002 to help the abandoned and unwanted pets of Madison County, population 15,717. The shelter receives no federal or state funds and is completely supported by donations, fundraisers, grants and a small monthly stipend from the city of Huntsville and Madison County. Even though the pet population remains constant, the shelter struggles financially every winter after summer donations slow down.

Wish List: Good quality dry dog food (low in fillers), large-bottom weighted metal feeders for dogs, low suds laundry soap, Odo Ban cleaner, paper towels, canned dog and cat food,kitty litter (non clumping), dog treats, toys and chewies, towels, good quality dry cat food, computer paper and toilet paper. The shelter also recycles used cell phones, mp3 players and iPods.

Bella Vista Animal Shelter

What: The Bella Vista Animal Shelter is a private nonprofit animal shelter that provides love and care to more than 800 stray dogs and cats a year. The shelter relies on memberships, donations and memorial income to exist. Dedicated volunteers also help the animals on a daily basis at the shelter. They walk dogs, socialize cats, help clean and assist in many ways that help make the animals more adoptable.

Wish List: High-quality dog and cat food, bleach, laundry detergent, dish soap, tall kitchen trash bags, clay cat litter, paper towels, HP02 ink cartridges, dog and cat toys, dog and cat treats. Receipts for tax purposes will be given upon request.For Pets’ Sake

What: For Pet’s Sake is a tax-exempt 501c3 nonprofit organization promoting animal welfare in Northwest Arkansas. The Best Friends program serves the senior and special needs communities to assist with emergency pet food, pet transportation, short-term pet sitting and financial assistance.
