2 passengers die in crashes in state

A Cabot man died Friday after a two-vehicle collision in Lonoke County, according to a preliminary Arkansas State Police fatality crash report.

About 7:45 a.m., William Sellers, 20, of Conway was driving south on Arkansas 5 north of Shurley Lane in a 1994 Nissan truck as a 2007 Toyota Avalon headed north on the highway, state police said. Sellers crossed the centerline to avoid a tow truck that was on the highway shoulder loading another vehicle, state police said.

He then struck head-on the Avalon driven by Sheila Smith, 58, of Cabot.

Sellers and Smith were injured and taken to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock and Baptist Health Medical Center-North Little Rock. One of Smith’s passengers, Noah Mc-Bee, 11, of Vilonia was taken to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.

Another passenger in the Avalon, Ernest Smith, 79, ofCabot died of his injuries at a local hospital that afternoon, state police said.

In another accident, a Lonoke teen died of her injuries after she was thrown from a car Nov. 14, according to a preliminary fatality crash report released Friday.

Just before 8 a.m. Nov. 14, Ashley Garcia, 17, of Des Arc was driving a Chrysler PT Cruiser east on Arkansas 38 just 3 miles west of Des Arc when the car veered off the road and overturned, according to the report. Passenger Sarah Jobe, 15, was ejected from the car, state police said.

Both Garcia and Jobe were taken to Arkansas Children’s Hospital, where Jobe later died.
