Fishing this week

HOT SPOTS

ARKANSAS RIVER (MORRILTON) Crappie are biting on black/chartreuse and pink/white jigs. Spotted bass are schooling around jetties that break into 10-15 feet of water. Largemouth bass are hitting soft-plastics fished around grass and timber. Catfish are suspended in10-15 feet of water and are being caught on whole shad. White bass are chasing shad at the mouths of creeks. Fish a white chatterbait in shallow water and a CC spoon 10 feet or deeper for white bass and the occasional striper.

ARKANSAS RIVER (MAUMELLE POOL) Bream and bass fishing are fair in Maumelle River. Bream are hitting white/chartreuse and red/chartreuse jigs. Bass are biting well around jetty points and backwater areas on white and chartreuse shallow diving crankbaits. Catfishing is excellent near the mainchannel using shad, skipjack, liver and night crawlers.

ARKANSAS RIVER (LITTLE ROCK POOL) Bass fishing is excellent around the jetties using black/chartreuse square billed crankbaits and Texas-rigged creature baits. Catfishing is excellent using shad, skipjack, night crawlers and green sunfish. Crappie are biting well in the brush piles in 5-6 feet of water.

LAKE DARDANELLE Bass fishing has been excellent from damto dam using Rat-L-Traps and swim baits fished deep and shallow. Striper fishing is excellent using topwater walking baits, swim baits and jerk baits. White bass fishing also has been excellent using small Rat-LTraps, spoons, inline spinners and tailspinners. Crappie have been bitingwell in the river and the creeks on jigs and minnows. Bass anglers have been catching a few catfish near jetties.

LAKE OUACHITA Black bass are biting very well. Try a Zara Spook Jr. or ZaraPup near creek channels and main lake points for topwater action or use a drop-shot rig with a finesse worm. Striper fishing is still very good with most being caught on live bait and big hair jigs. Topwater action is good, withreports of fish breaking in the mouths of major creek basins. Clear or chrome Super Spooks and C-10 Redfins are working best. Crappie are being caught near brush 20-25 feet deep with red rosies, minnows or crappie jigs.
