Georgia Mjartan

Where I live: My husband, Dominik Mjartan, and I live in the oldest house in Cammack Village. It was built in 1900, when this area was a farm. The interior of the house was lovingly restored by Paul Zander.

Occupation: I am the executive director of Our House, a program that provides a permanent way out of poverty for working homeless families and their children.

My favorite space is: Our back deck.

Why? I love to sit on my back deck and look out at the beautiful space that my husband created. Dominik built a fire pit that involved stacking about eight feet of stones from the ground level up to our deck, where we can sit around with friends and enjoy a fire. My favorite spot on the deck is a cozy corner overlooking the front yard. Here, we like to read the newspaper while enjoying breakfast on the weekend, take a break from house and yard work, and just relax together while enjoying the view. We’ve had parties out here with standing room only. We also have plenty of quiet times that we cherish in our busy lives.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: Nothing. It is perfect.
