Arkansas first at NCAA regional

— Arkansas' men won the NCAA South Central Regional title Friday morning in Waco, Texas.

The Razorbacks had four runners finish in the top 10, led by individual champion Stanley Kebenei and runner-up Kemoy Campbell. Kebenei and Campbell led throughout the race, with Kebenei finishing a step ahead with an unofficial time of 29:41.3.

Arkansas finished with 34 points, 3 points ahead of second-place Texas in the team standings. The win marks the program's 33rd regional title in cross country.

Campbell nearly won his third consecutive individual title this season, having finished first at the Adidas Wisconsin Invitational in October and Southeastern Conference Championship earlier this month. The senior is expected to contend for the NCAA individual title next weekend.

Texas Tech runner Kennedy Kithuka, the defending NCAA champion, finished just less than 8 seconds ahead of Campbell at the Chile Pepper Festival last month in Fayetteville.

Kebenei won for the first time after finishing second at the SEC meet. Solomon Haile finished sixth Friday and Gabe Gonzales finished ninth in the 10k race. David Flynn came in 16th for the Razorbacks.

Arkansas, ranked No. 9 nationally, will close the cross country season with the NCAA meet next Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind.
