Veterans Day Events

• The annual Veterans Day Parade will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Fayetteville. The parade starts on Mountain Street and goes around the downtown square and finishes on West Center Street. The parade will feature school bands, vintage cars, youth and civic groups and military units. The Singing Men of Arkansas and the Ozark Highlander Pipe Band will present a free concert at 4 p.m. at the Town Center.

• Arvest Bank will honor those who have served our country with a Veterans Day reception at 2 p.m. Monday at the branch on the Fayetteville square. The program will include remarks by Donny Story, president and CEO of Arvest Fayetteville, and Randy George, retired Army sergeant major and commander of Springdale’s Veterans of Foreign War post. • The annual Veterans Day ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday in the auditorium of Building 3, Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks, 1100 N. College Ave., Fayetteville. Information: 479-443-4301 or fayettevillear.va.gov.

• NorthWest Arkansas Community College’s Veterans Day program is set for 11 a.m. Monday. The event will be held in Room 108 of the Becky Paneitz Student Center in Bentonville. Li McClain will sing the national anthem. Retired Air Force Col. Daniel Shewmaker will be the guest speaker. A reception will follow the program. The public is invited.

• Northwest Technical Institute will host a Veterans Day Celebration 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday. A pizza lunch will be served at 11 a.m. followed by a program at 11:30 and a balloon release at 12:15. Balloons can be purchased to honor a veteran with proceeds going to the 2014 National Veterans Golden Age Games. NTI is at 709 S. Old Missouri Road, Springdale. • Reservations for the second annual RazorVets: Celebrating Veterans at the University of Arkansas are due Tuesday at arkansasalumni.org/RazorVets2013. The banquet will be 6 p.m. Nov. 15 in the Arkansas Union’s Verizon Ballroom for university alumni, students, faculty and staff who have served in the U.S. military. The keynote speaker will be 1981 graduate Lt. Gen. Bradley A. Heithold, vice commander of U.S. Special Operations Command in Washington. The event is hosted by the Arkansas Alumni Association and the university Veterans Resource and Information Center. It is sponsored by Woodmen of the World and Vietnam veterans Curt Munson and Bruce Munson in honor of Oliver “Ollie” Campbell. Information: Erika Gamboa at [email protected] or 479-575-8742.
