Wycliffe banquet set to vet new volunteers

SPRINGDALE - Wycliffe Associates, an international volunteer organization that assists in the work of Bible translation around the world, will have a banquet Nov. 16 at the Springdale Holiday Inn. Boone and Julie Aldridge, who have been involved with the organization for years, will discuss their experiences and how people of all backgrounds continue to work together to translate the Bible.

Coping with holidays topic of seminar

HOLIDAY ISLAND - Holiday Island Community Church is sponsoring a “Surviving the Holidays” seminar 2-4 p.m. Nov. 17 in the fellowship hall. The program is for those facing Thanksgiving, Christmas and the start of a new year after the loss of a loved one, including those whose loved one died several years ago.

Noon concert series with Byers and Botes

FAYETTEVILLE - Central United Methodist Church will continue its “Noon Brown Bag Concert” series Monday. The program will feature Stephen Byers, a master’s level student at the University of Arkansas, playing the tuba. He will be accompanied by Johan Botes.

The concert ends at 12:30 and will be followed by brown bag lunches. Diners may take a lunch with them or stay and eat at the church. The program and lunch are free.

to hold yard sale

FORT SMITH - St. Scholastica Monastery will have a sale of small furniture and household items 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and Nov. 16. The monastery, at 1301 S. Albert Pike, has three entrances. Those attending the sale may take the service entrance near Rogers Avenue and drive around to the yellow house.

Hanukkah items

at Temple Shalom

FAYETTEVILLE - Temple Shalom of Northwest Arkansas has Hanukkah items for sale in the synagogue store from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the Sundays leading up to the holiday, which begins at sundown Nov. 27. Several items from Israel are available, including candlesticks and snacks. The store also has a variety of gift items, books, kitchen wares, chocolate gelt and dreidels.
