District Aiming To Replace Bentonville Athletic Fields

— School District officials hope to replace the fields at the high school’s football and soccer stadiums by next fall and pay for it entirely through donations.

Scott Passmore, athletic director, said he will present a plan to the School Board next month detailing the steps necessary to raise the $1.2 million needed for the two projects.

“Our goal is to do this without any money from the School District,” Passmore said.

The surfaces at both stadiums are eight years old and are showing their age, he said. The district spent about $55,000 in 2011 to extend the life of the turf at Tiger Stadium by a couple of years.

Passmore’s goal is to raise the money in about six months and have the new surfaces installed by the beginning of football season next fall, Passmore said. The soccer teams play in the spring.

Passmore shared his plan with the School Board at its meeting Tuesday. Rebecca Powers, a board member, thanked him for his determination to raise money for the new fields.

The district has a long list of capital improvement needs that include items such as kitchen equipment, playground upgrades and roofing projects. Turf replacement at the soccer and football fields is also on that list.

Selling naming rights is one possible way to raise money for the fields, Passmore said.
