Siloam Springs Official Accused Of Child Assault

— The chairman of the city's Planning Commission resigned after he was arrested in connection with sexually assaulting a 3-year-old girl.

Garrett Brown, 27, of 2510 N. Dawn Hill Road was arrested Oct. 28 in connection with second-degree sexual assault, a Class B felony.

Brown resigned Monday from the Planning Commission. The resignation was effective immediately.

In his resignation letter, Brown wrote he would no longer be living in the planning area.

Brown’s term on the commission was to expire in 2015. Brown was absent at the Board of Adjustment meeting Oct. 29.

The child’s mother reported to the Arkansas Child Abuse Hotline on Oct. 23 her daughter and Brown were playing a game, and Brown had her daughter perform oral sex on him. The mother also reported Brown inappropriately touched her daughter.

The girl was interviewed at the Benton County Child Advocacy Center in Little Flock by a specialized forensic interviewer. During the interview the child gave additional details of the abuse, according to court documents.

The mother said she was out of town the week before the report was made, and the child was alone with Brown.

Brown was released from the Benton County Jail on $20,000 bond. A condition of the bond is he have no contact with the girl.

Brown’s arraignment is set for Dec. 9 in Benton County Circuit Court.
