Police: Man held woman and children captive in Fayetteville residence

FAYETTEVILLE — Police said they arrested a Springdale man Wednesday after he held a pregnant woman and her children captive inside their apartment.

Christopher Lynn Corbitt, 44, of 955 Underhill Lane, Apt. C, in Springdale faces felony charges in connection with residential burglary, second-degree false imprisonment, fleeing, refusual to submit to arrest and two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor. He also faces a possible parole violation and charges from another department.

Police were called to 401 W. 24th St. around midnight for a report of a break-in.

According to an arrest report, a woman reported that two unknown men came into her apartment.

One of the men left and the other man, later identified as Corbitt, stood behind a chair in the living room and asked the woman if they "could talk," the report said.

The woman, who is five months pregnant, was in her apartment with her two children, ages 1 and 2, police said.

Investigators said she told Corbitt to leave, but he refused. Police said he retrieved two large kitchen knives, lodged them between the door and the door jam; and locked the deadbolt.

According to the report, Corbitt turned toward the woman and her children and began stroking his penis. He stated, "You know what I want," the report said.

Police said the woman grabbed her two children, ran to a bedroom and screamed for help through a window.

Witnesses, who heard the woman's screams, kicked open her apartment door, detectives said.

Corbitt ran from the apartment, according to the report.

Police said they found Corbitt after a neighbor pointed him out. Officers told Corbitt to show his hands, the report said, but Corbitt brandished a knife and ran away.

Investigators said they used a Taser to subdue Corbitt. He was arrested and taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was being held Wednesday without bond.
