Bentonville Library Hosts 'Hunger Games' Event

Tuesday, November 5, 2013

— Teens can learn survival skills in an event inspired by a popular book series this weekend at the public library.

The Hunger Games Survival Workshop, meant for those ages 13 to 18, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the library and at the Train Station Park across from the library. Registration is required at www.bentonvillelibrary.org.

Local experts will teach teens such things as how to tie knots, how to identify local plants and how to use a bow and arrow. There also will be activities such as “Hunger Games” trivia and a raffle.

“The new trend in young adult fiction is dystopian,” said Sarah Gowdy, the library’s teen services librarian. “Today’s teens are less interested in supernatural romances. They want to imagine what the future would hold if our society broke down and had to rebuild again. Teens can relate to dystopian. It’s rebellious and moody but with sparks of hope for a better future.”

The library is at 405 S. Main St.
