Funnyman pianist Gonyea, comic Regan, Scotch on tap

Emmy Award-winning pianist-comedian Dale Gonyea will perform at 2 p.m. today at the Arend Arts Center, 1901 S.E. J St., Bentonville, under the Live On Stage in NWA banner.

The “Students on Stage” opening act will be the Ballroom Club of the University of Arkansas. Tickets are $25, $5 for students.

Comedy and Scotch

Comedian Brian Regan performs at 7 p.m. Saturday in Baum Walker Hall. Tickets are $46.50.

Also at the center this week, Gregor Cattanach, National Master of Scotch Whisky and Keeper of the Quaich, will hold an “Evolution of Whisky” tasting at 7 p.m. Friday in the Starr Theater. The evening starts with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres; patrons will sample a number of Scotch whiskies. Tickets are $75. All proceeds support the center’s arts education programs.

Photo exhibition

The Depot, 548 W. Dickson St., Fayetteville, will display an exhibition of recent photographs by Eureka Springs’ John Rankine, titled “Beneath the Surface,” Wednesday through Nov. 30, with a 7-9 p.m. Thursday opening reception (with food, beverages and music) in conjunction with Fayetteville’sFirst Thursdays. The photos will be on display during the restaurant’s normal business hours, 7 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 7 a.m.-midnight Friday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Sunday. Straight no tickets?

A cappella group Straight No Chaser has sold out its 7:30 p.m. Tuesday concert at the University of Central Arkansas’ Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway. However, any tickets that have been turned back will be available at the box office one hour before the UCA Public Appearances show - $30-$40, $27-$37 for senior citizens, $10 for children, with discounts for UCA alumni, staff and students. Memphis’ West Side

Troika Entertainment’s national tour of West Side Story (music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book by Arthur Laurents) will be onstage at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 and 7 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Orpheum Theatre, 203 S. Theater meeting

The Royal Theatre, 111 S.Market St., Benton, will be the site for Saturday’s sixth annual meeting of the Arkansas Community Theater Association. Registration begins at 8 a.m., with a welcome and business meeting at 9 and workshops on acting, directing, designing sets, technical challenges, writing a fundraising plan and publicity continuing through 4 p.m. Registration fee is $35. Rep auditions

The Arkansas Repertory Theatre will hold local auditions for Clybourne Park by Bruce Norris at 6 p.m. Nov. 18 at the theater, 601 Main St., Little Rock.

Auditions will consist of readings directly from the script via “sides” that the Rep will post on its website, tinyurl.com/lkswbe6. No monologues.

Director Cliff Fannin Baker is casting union and nonunion actors in eight dual roles, including five men, ages 20s-mid-50s, and three women in their 20s-40s. A complete breakdown, including character requirements anddescriptions, are available online at tinyurl.com/ltxvz6r.

Date shifts

There have been some date changes for performances at the East Arkansas Community College Fine Arts Center, 1700 Newcastle Road, Forrest City:

A scheduling conflict has moved the Spotlight Series performance “An Evening with Bill Cosby” from April 26 to April 5. The college will honor tickets for the original performance date; single tickets go on sale Feb. 24.

The Jeff Bowling Quartet’s performance, originally scheduled for April 5, has moved to April 12. General admission tickets to the show in the center’s Black Box Theater go on sale six weeks in advance.

The United States Navy Band Sea Chanters will perform at 3 p.m. March 23. General admission tickets are free but the college recommends making reservations.

Heritage grants

Dec. 9 is the deadline for organizations across the state to apply for Arkansas Heritage Month grants from the Department of Arkansas Heritage.

The May 2014 event will focus on Arkansas foods and food traditions, with the theme, “Come to the Table: Celebrating the Flavors of Arkansas.” Grants are available to help communities develop local events and projects such as festivals, exhibits, historic tours and walking tours.

Preservation awards

The Historic Preservation Alliance of Arkansas will honor Missy McSwain, director of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, with its Parker Westbrook Award for Lifetime Achievement, part of the annual Arkansas Preservation Awards, at a ceremony and luncheon Jan. 10 at the Arkansas Governor’s Mansion.
