Arkansas crashes

leave three dead

Three Arkansans died after separate accidents on state roads this week, including a Greenbrier woman who died of injuries she suffered last week, according to preliminary Arkansas State Police fatality accident reports released Wednesday.

Robert Shackelford, 66, of Gentry; Wandean Garrison, 77, of Greenbrier; and Fred Richards, 43, of Cabot died of their injuries, the reports state.

About 11:35 a.m. May 23, Shackelford drove west on Arkansas 264 near Brush Arbor Road in a 1990 Toyota Camry when he began negotiating a left turn in Highfill, Highfill police said. He drove off the road, struck a tree and died at the accident scene, police said.

About 10:30 a.m. May 23, Jessica Wright, 23, was trying to turn left from U.S. 65 to get onto Interstate 40 in Conway, when she crashed her 2010 Mazda MZ3 into a 2002 Toyota Camry, the report states.

Wright struck the Camry’s passenger side, Conway police said.

Wright of Cabot and Jim Dunbar, 84, of Ash Flat who drove the Camry, were uninjured. Garrison, a passenger in the Camry, was taken to Conway Regional Hospital, where she died Saturday, police said.

About 6:50 a.m. Wednesday, Richards turned a 1998 Mack onto Arkansas 319 from Arkansas 5 in Lonoke County, when he took a wide turn and struck a concrete culvert, state police said. The tractor-trailer then rolled into a creek, the report states.

22,000 claims filed after tornado

OKLAHOMA CITY - More than 22,000 claims have been filed for propertyand vehicles damaged by tornadoes that struck the state on May 19 and 20, according to the Oklahoma Insurance Department.

The agency said claims filed so far represent insured losses of at least $85 million.

The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management said a total of 1,248 structures were destroyed by the tornado.

in Missouri pond

WEBB CITY, Mo. - The body of a 14-year-old boy has been found in a small pond near a high school, according to authorities in southwest Missouri.

The Webb City Police Department said that the body of Fred “Freddie” Williams was recovered early Thursday from the pond north of Webb City High School. Police did not release an official cause of death.

Williams was reported missing around 4:30 p.m.

Wednesday after he was last seen in the area with a small dog.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - One suspect in the deaths of a Michigan couple in southwest Missouri wants to have his trial moved.

The Springfield News-Leader reported court records indicate 17-year-old Anthony Zarro of Spring, Texas, is seeking a change of venue and a new judge.

On Wednesday, Zarro’s arraignment was rescheduled for July 1. Also Wednesday, a second suspect, 16-year-old Christopher Allen of Nashville, Tenn., waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

The two teenagers were charged as adults with killing Paul and Margaret Brooks in January.
