Body in river ID’d as Lake City man’s

LAKE CITY - Authorities in northeast Arkansas said a body found in the St.

Francis River belongs to a Lake City man who was reported missing in March.

Craighead County Assistant Chief Deputy Justin Rolland said the body discovered Sunday night belongs to Mark Davis. A fisherman running trotlines discovered the body near the Lake City bridge.

Rolland said the body had been in the water for quite some time, but investigators are still awaiting an official cause of death.

Rolland said the investigation is ongoing and that authorities are treating the case as a suspicious death.

Davis was reported missing after he was released March 7 from the Craighead County jail.

Rudy man given posthumous honor

RUDY - An Arkansas man who was killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan nearly a decade ago is being honored.

The family of 36-yearold John Deuley of Rudy on Tuesday accepted the Defense Department’s Defense of Freedom medal to honor his service.

Deuley was working for DynCorp International training Afghan police officers when he was killed by a car bomb in 2004. He left behind a wife and three children.

Deuley was an Army veteran and had worked in law enforcement in Texas.

In the Southwest Times Record, wife Michelle described her late husband as a man of honor, and his mother, Sherry LaFrance, said her son had a strong sense of duty but always put his family first.

Pedestrian killed in train accident

PINE BLUFF - A train accident killed a pedestrian late Tuesday in Pine Bluff, authorities said.

Little Rock television station KATV-TV, Channel 7 reports that the collision happened at about 9:30 p.m.

at 17th Avenue and Miramar Drive. Authorities said a man was found lying on the railroad tracks about 25 yards north of the intersection.

Investigators are still looking into what happened.

The victim’s name has not yet been released.

Separate crashes kill 4 from Grove

GROVE, Okla. - The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said four people from Grove were killed in two separate traffic crashes Tuesday night in northeastern Oklahoma.

The highway patrol said the first crash occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on Oklahoma 2 near Welch in Craig County. A preliminary report said 77-year-old Donald Charles Kelley and his wife, 76-year-old Nancy Kelley, died when their vehicle went off the road and overturned twice.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.

The second accident happened shortly before 8 p.m. on a county road near Grove. The highway patrolsaid a pickup drove off the road and crashed into a tree.

The crash killed a passenger, 23-year-old Kayla Hull, and a 2-year-old boy, Kane Hull.

Oklahoman guilty of sex trafficking

TULSA - An Oklahoma man accused of engaging in child sex trafficking has been convicted on six of seven charges in U.S. District Court.

Williams Sr. said Tuesday that 27-year-old Tarran Arnel Brinson was found guilty conspiring to obtain underage girls while knowing they would be used in commercial sex acts.

Williams said the victims were girls as young as 14, and were forced into prostitution. Prosecutors said Brinson used social media to recruit girls for the enterprise.

Brinson, who pleaded innocent, was convicted after a six-day trial. Sentencing will be set later.

The case was investigated by Tulsa police, the FBI and other agencies.

Man crashes car into airport fence

TULSA - Authorities said a man has been arrested after crashing his car through a fence at Tulsa International Airport.

Police said the incident began late Monday when an officer noticed a stolen vehicle at a nearby motel. Tulsa television station KTULTV, Channel 8 reported that a man saw the police officer in the motel parking lot, jumped in the car and sped away.

Authorities said the pursuit ended when the man crashed the car into a fence near the south end of the airport. He was arrested shortly after the crash.

Police said the man won’t face federal charges because he didn’t drive past a restrictive barrier at the airport. Airspace above the airport was closed for a short time as a police helicopter searched for the suspect, but no flights were delayed.

Moore hospital to be demolished

MOORE, Okla. - Hospital officials said they plan to demolish the Moore Medical Center, which was destroyed in last week’s EF5 tornado.

Norman Regional Health System CEO David Whitaker said the building isn’t salvageable. The Norman Transcript reported that the Norman Regional Hospital Authority has declared an emergency to allow hospital officials to waive bidding requirements for recovery, salvage and demolition costs.

Whitaker said officials haven’t decided yet whether to build a new community hospital in Moore.

The hospital specialized in cochlear implants. Officials said a young girl who was scheduled for a cochlear implant had the procedure done at a Norman hospital after the implant was recovered from the remains of the Moore Medical Center.
