Saugeye Stocked In Lakes

Two Bella Vista lakes, Norwood and Avalon, were stocked last week with fingerling saugeye, a cross species of sauger and walleye.

Lake Norwood received 3,000 saugeye and 7,000 saugeye were stocked at Lake Avalon. The fish are surplus saugeye that were raised by the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission. The fish became available after stocking requirements of public waters were met.

Darrell Bowman, lake ecologist and fisheries manager for the Bella Vista Property Owners Association, said he has requested saugeye from Game & Fish at the request of anglers.

Saugeye stocked previously in the lakes grew rapidly to a size of 2 to 3 pounds in 2.5 years. However, Bowman has not heard of a fisherman catching a saugeye.
