Stanek, Anderson named All-SEC

FAYETTEVILLE -Arkansas junior pitcher Ryne Stanek and sophomore outfielder Brian Anderson earned All-SEC honors for the first time when voting by the conference coaches was announced Tuesday.

Stanek (9-2, 1.40 ERA) was one of two first-team All-SEC starting pitchers along with LSU sophomore Aaron Nola (10-0, 1.94 ERA), who was voted the league’s pitcher of the year.

“It’s a great honor to be thought of highly like that,” Stanek said. “There are a lot of really good pitchers and players in this conference, and it’s just pretty cool to be selected for something like that.”

Stanek was 7-1 with a conference-best 0.97 ERA in 10 SEC starts. He was even better in four starts in the second game of an SEC series after Arkansas lost the opener, going 4-0 with a 0.33 ERA while allowing 1 earned run in 27 1/3 innings.

Anderson, voted to the All-SEC second team, is batting .338, including .371 in conference games. He has four home runs and 33 RBI.

“It’s really an honor, especially with the league we’re playing in,” Anderson said. “There are lot of good outfielders out there, a lot of guys swinging good.”

Vanderbilt second baseman Tony Kemp, who is batting .402 and has 30 stolen bases, was voted player of the year. LSU shortstop Alex Bregman (.378, 5 home runs, 49 RBI) was voted freshman of the year. Tim Corbin, who led Vanderbilt to a record 26 SEC regular-season victories, was voted coach of the year.
