Security worker slain in Afghanistan honored

RUDY — An Arkansas man who was killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan nearly a decade ago is being honored.

The family of 36-year-old John Deuley of Rudy on Tuesday accepted the Defense Department's Defense of Freedom medal to honor his service.

Deuley was working for DynCorp International training Afghan police officers when he was killed by a car bomb in 2004. He left behind a wife and three children.

Deuley was an Army veteran and had worked in law enforcement in Texas.

The Southwest Times Record reported that his wife, Michelle, described her late husband as a man of honor, and his mother, Sherry LaFrance, said her son had a strong sense of duty but always put his family first.
