Fayetteville’s Gulley Park Summer Concert Series begins Thursday with a concert by the Wheeler Brothers. Six concerts are planned on select Thursdays throughout the summer from 7-9 p.m.

The Sarah Hughes Band is set to perform on June 13, while Rosco Bandana will play June 27. Got It Covered is scheduled for July 11, followed by Jason D. Williams on July 25.

Uncrowned Kings will play the final concert of the summer on Aug. 8. This year marks the 17th year of the concert series.

Lowell to host annual Mudtown Days

Lowell will host the 37th annual Mudtown Days Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Ward Nail Park.

The Mudtown Days carnival will be open from 6-11 p.m.

Thursday and Friday and 1-11 p.m. Saturday. Friday night events include an opening ceremony at 6 p.m., the Little Mr.

and Miss Lowell contest at 7 p.m. and a performance by the Ben Chesney Band at 8 p.m. Kids can participate in a fishing derby from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday at the park. The Mud Buddy Run and one-mile fun run also begin at 8 a.m.

Other events Saturday include square dancing at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.; stagecoach rides and a talent contest at 11 a.m.; a watermelon eating contest at 4 p.m.; and a street dance with live performances by Mike Chase and Extreme Dance Machines starting at 7 p.m. More information is available at mudtowndays.lowellarkansas.gov.

  • ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTEWatershed group sets teacher workshop

The Illinois River Watershed Partnership will host its annual watershed workshop for K-12 teachers, teachers’ aides and other educators June 24-25 and July 22-23 at the watershed’s Sanctuary on the Lake in Cave Springs.

Educators will participate in hands-on training about watershed management. Teachers can earn up to 12 hours of professional development credit.

The first day of each workshop will include information about environmental issues facing the Illinois River Watershed; teaching strategies for watershed management practices; protecting endangered species and native plants;

and rain gardens. The second day of the workshop includes a canoe trip on the Illinois River. Participants will meet at Arkansas 59 five miles south of Siloam Springs.

Teachers will learn about streambank erosion and its effects on water quality; riparian buffers for streambank stabilization; and water quality monitoring.

Registration deadline for the workshop is June 20. Cost to attend is $30 per person. More information is available at irwp. org/events/ or by calling (479) 238-4671.
