Authorities run amok

An IRS executive being questioned by Congress says she will not answer any questions. You try telling the IRS what she told Congress.

A Benghazi whistle-blower with an apparently sterling reputation and work ethic is demoted.

The attorney general of the United States says he didn’t know about guns to Mexico in Fast and Furious; he didn’t know about reporters’ phone records being seized either.

Nobody knows anything about the IRS targeting groups with beliefs different than the administration’s.

It’s against the law to lie to Congress, but Congress can lie to us.

Our government has been sending the president of Afghanistan millions of dollars over the past 10 years. They see no need to end those payments.

And here at home we have a former state treasurer who was jailed on federal charges.

The list is endless. Yes, I think our government is completely out of control. I see no leadership. I see no sense of morals, ethics, honesty or respect for the law. Most of all, I see no respect for American citizens. But most frightening-nobody seems to know how to fix it.

WILL COHEN Little Rock Questions to answer

If you assume that everything our leadership has told us is true about Fast and Furious, Benghazi, IRS targeting, and Associated Press phone records, then do they know anything of value about the causes of these serious matters?

Are other than elected leadershiprunning our government? Are there other important matters on which our leadership is completely uninformed?

If they are not uninformed, are we being misled about other important matters?

GROVER KNOLL ClarendonAbuse and usurpation

Edmund Burke said in 1775 that Americans anticipate evil, and predict misgovernment. Thus they “snuff the approach of tyranny in every tainted breeze.”

Sadly, I feel that the tainted breeze has turned into a gale.

I believe the spirit of freedom and liberty that compelled 56 mento pledge to each other their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor is itself being snuffed out by an out-of-control federal governmentthat strives to impose its will upon the people. When a government agency prohibits the free speech of those who oppose said government by using its power of audit, when a free press is intimidated for investigating said government, when a people’s right to keep and bear arms is under assault by the very government that was created to protect that right and not infringe upon it, when a government abuses its power to tax by squandering the people’s money and incurring debts and deficits to insurmountable to ever recover from, you have a long train of abuses and usurpations.

However, do Americans today have the will to act?

JOE BEARD SherwoodIn which category?

Both Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin are said to have referred to many of their adherents as “useful idiots,” meaning those who, with only limited knowledge of means and ends, fell into lockstep with their transformational movements to replace existing governments with socialist/ communist systems. They viewed such adherents with contempt even as they welcomed their ill-informed but essential support. I believe we are witnessing such an occurrence in America today.

Our current government is comprised of an administration which has won two consecutive presidential elections on a campaign promise to fundamentally transform America. That administration, I believe, is now pursuing an agenda which, if successful, will fulfill the campaign promise. In my view, its success has been, and is, its expertise in manipulating the “useful idiots.”

In our current situation, I perceive these political pawns as falling into two categories: those who are totally uninformed and uninterested but whose votes are harvested by organizers in much the same manner as fishermen harvest schools of fish; and those who are ill-informed due to indoctrination by left-wing biaswhich permeates our entertainment industry, our educational institutions and our news media. Included in this category are Voices writers who fear and abhor private companies such as Exxon and Wal-Mart while embracing and trusting Big Government and the IRS.

If you support the fundamental transformation of our country, in which category do you fall?

DENNIS LEGGETT BatesvilleAll hail conservatism

Scandals galore! Allegations of the IRS targeting conservative groups accused of using inappropriate data when filing for tax-exempt status; lack of appropriate actions among military personnel who are responsible for the prevention of sexual activities … between the superiors that do so … and those who are the victims of sexual abuse; the lack of timely intervention by the U.S. Department of State to prevent the deaths of U.S. personnel in Benghazi, Libya; and questions about the U.S. Department of Justice subpoena of phone records of Associated Press reporters and editors.

We (Republicans) have decided that we must do everything that is possible to gain a voting monopolywithin the Senate and House of the U.S. Congress and control enough electoral votes to take over the executive branch. We can begin a strategy to make sure that at least six conservatives are eventually placed on the U.S. Supreme Court. Further, we must prevent the acceptance of Obamacare and his current effortsto make education and housing available, insurance more affordable, and reduce this nation’s debt burden and unemployment rate.

Once we take our country back from the socialist liberals, we can make America the fine Christian nation that denotes God’s blessings.

I predict that all real Americans will come to learn that conservatism is the only way to maintain our world leadership and spread the message of change through the world.
