Watershed to host two kids’ camps
The Illinois River Watershed Partnership will host an Art and Nature Camp for Kids and a Watershed Camp for Kids this summer.
The new Art and Nature Camp will be led by artist John P. Lasater IV. Lasater is known for his landscapes, portraits and still life paintings. He worked for 13 years as a designer, illustrator and art director at Hallmark. He will give art lessons to kids ages eight to 12 during the camp.
Camps will be held from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. June 10-19. Students may sign up for one day only.
The Watershed Camp for Kids will focus on learning about the watershed through Watershed Mania games, geocaching around Lake Keith, bug kicking, water quality monitoring, fishing, kayaking and canoeing. The one-day workshop is also intended for kids ages eight to 12.
Camps will be held from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. June 26-28 and July 24-26.
Lunch and snacks will be provided at the camps. They will be held at the watershed group’s new Sanctuary at the Lake in Cave Springs.

- ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE‘Canstruction’ project seeks volunteers
The Frisco Station Mall and BRR Architecture are looking for volunteers to participate in “Canstruction,” a design and sculpture event to raise awareness of hunger in the community.
Local businesses and groups are invited to enter a sculpture design for the event, which will take place Sept. 29.
Sculptures must be made entirely of canned food, which will be donated to local food banks after the contest is complete.
Organizers are looking for a minimum of 10 teams to participate in the event. The first Canstruction steering committee meeting is set for June 6; team captains will meet June 13.
