Six-run 8th sinks Travs against Hooks

The Arkansas Travelers came up with enough offense to stay with Corpus Christi on Saturday night.

It was the Travs defense that let them down in the series opener against the Hooks.

A pair of eighth-inning errors aided Corpus Christi in a six-run inning and the Travs fell 10-3 at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, Texas. The loss extended the Travs’ longest losing streak of the season to five games.

On Saturday, Arkansas fell behind 3-0 in the first, then got within 4-3 with two runs in the third and one in the eighth off Randal Grichuk’s two-out home run, his seventh of the season. The Travs were held to a total of three runs while being swept by San Antonio in a series that finished Friday.

After Grichuk’s home run, the Hooks then scored six in the bottom of the eighth off only two hits because of a pair of errors.

Left-hander Michael Roth (1-1) held Corpus Christi scoreless over his final four innings, but took his first loss in three starts for Arkansas.
