A chancery court hearing is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. tomorrow on a request from 18 property owners in the area of 3200 Ozark, where a 5-million gallon water storage tank is being erected. The group, represented by attorney E. DeMatt Henderson, is seeking an injunction to halt construction of the tank until the Water Works Commission has made provisions for payment of damages to property values. Most of the residents involved in the controversy have insisted that they had no forewarning of the project until a construction crew had assembled almost two thirds of the tank.

At least two schools in the Pulaski County Special School District promised students treats if their parents voted Tuesday in the millage election. A slip of paper apparently sent home Monday with students at Northwood Junior High and Harris Elementary schools encouraged parents to vote for the 6.5-mill increase that was defeated by 221 votes Tuesday. On the back of the slip was a note telling parents that if they gave the card to a parent volunteer at the polling place their child would receive a “treat” at school.

The Hot Springs Advertising and Promotion Commission is to meet Tuesday to discuss the $600,000 bid by Summit Bank. The bid did not provide the wording for how the bank would like to name the arena. Also, Summit Bank said it wants to discuss gaining exclusive rights to automatic teller machines within the arena, and possibly the entire convention center. The commission had hoped for as much as $1.5 million for the naming rights.
