Accidents kill two on state highways

Two Arkansans died after accidents on state roads Tuesday and Friday, according to preliminary Arkansas State Police fatality accident reports.

Villa Lovin, 90, of Quitman and Shelly Tankersley, 39, of Hensley died of their injuries, state police said.

About 9:10 p.m. Tuesday, Robert Mayor Jr., 51, of Conway drove south in a 2007 Dodge pickup on Arkansas 5, about 4 miles south of Arkansas 31 in White County, when he tried to pass two vehicles on a hill, state police said.

Mayor then collided head on with a northbound 2004 Ford pickup driven by John Burmingham, 58, state police said.

Mayor, Burmingham and Lovin, a passenger in the Ford truck, were taken to the White County Medical Center, the report said. Lovin died about 4 a.m. Wednesday.

About 2:30 p.m. Friday, Kevin Griffie, 42, of DeWitt drove a 2001 GMC north onInterstate 530 in Pulaski County when he lost control of the vehicle, causing the vehicle to roll over several times, state police said.

Griffie was taken to Baptist Hospital in Little Rock, and Tankersley, a passenger, died of her injuries, state police said.
