YANKEES Teixeira to play in minors

TAMPA, Fla. - Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira said Friday that he expects to play in a minor-league game Wednesday with Class AA Trenton.

It will be his first game since hurting his right wrist in early March while preparing with the U.S. team for the World Baseball Classic.

Manager Joe Girardi watched while the All-Star took part in an extensive simulated game with infielder Kevin Youkilis at the Yankees’ minor-league complex Friday. Youkilis is sidelined with a sore back.

Teixeira may be ready to rejoin the Yankees in early June. Youkilis looks to start a minor-league rehab assignment soon.

Reliever Joba Chamberlain, sidelined by a right oblique strain, said he’s scheduled to throw two innings out of the bullpen today in his second extended spring training game.

NATIONALS Espinosa has broken wrist bone

WASHINGTON - Washington Nationals second baseman Danny Espinosa has a broken bone in his right wrist and will rest a few days to see if it improves.

Manager Davey Johnson said Friday that Espinosa has been playing with discomfort since getting hit by a pitch April 14 against the Atlanta Braves. Espinosa also has a bone chip in the wrist, but the main concern is a small fracture that needs time to heal.

The Nationals want to avoid putting Espinosa on the disabled list, so they are hoping a few days of rest will be enough.

Espinosa has struggled all season at the plate. He’s hitting .163 with a .196 on-base percentage.

Steve Lombardozzi will take Espinosa’s place in the lineup.

RED SOX

Victorino, Middlebrooks on DL

BOSTON - The Boston Red Sox have placed outfielder Shane Victorino and third baseman Will Middlebrooks on the 15-day disabled list and recalled right-hander Alfredo Aceves and infielder Jose Iglesias.

In other moves Friday, both involving catchers, David Ross was activated from the seven-day concussion disabled list and Ryan Lavarnway was optioned to Class AAA Pawtucket.

Victorino went on the list retroactive to May 21 with a strained left hamstring. Middlebrooks has a low back strain and left Thursday night’s 12-3 loss to the Cleveland Indians after the fourth inning. Victorino is hitting .283 in 34 games. Middlebrooks is batting .201 in 46 games.

Aceves and Iglesias began the season with Boston before going to Pawtucket. In five major-league games, Aceves was 1-1 with an 8.66 ERA. Iglesias hit .450 in six games.

REDS Marshall out with sore shoulder

CINCINNATI - The Reds have placed left-handed reliever Sean Marshall on the 15-day disabled list for the second time this season because of a sore pitching shoulder.

Marshall’s left shoulder became tired during spring training, and he went on the disabled list from April 10-25 with tendinitis. The problem reoccurred when he resumed pitching, so the Reds put him back on the disabled list Friday before the start of a series against the Chicago Cubs.

Marshall was 0-1 with a 2.57 ERA in 11 appearances covering 7 innings.

Left-hander Manny Parra was activated off the disabled list to take his spot. Parra has been on the DL since April 26 with a strained muscle on the left side of his back. Parra was 0-1 with an 8.10 ERA in 6 appearances.

BLUE JAYS

Happ moved to 60-day DL TORONTO - The Toronto Blue Jays have moved pitcher J.A. Happ to the 60-day disabled list as the left-hander recovers from injuries after being hit in the head with a line drive earlier in this month.

Happ was placed on the 15-day disabled list after sustaining a skull fracture behind his left ear when a line drive off the bat of Tampa Bay’s Desmond Jennings caught the pitcher on the left side of his head in the game May 7. Happ dropped to the ground and was carted off the field.

Also Friday, left-handed reliever Darren Oliver was put on the 15-day disabled list with a left shoulder strain and rookie Sean Nolin was added to the roster.

WHITE SOX Danks returns from disabled list

CHICAGO - The Chicago White Sox reinstated pitcher John Danks from the disabled list before Friday’s start against the Miami Marlins.

Danks, 28, had been sidelined for more than a year by a shoulder injury.

The left-hander hasn’t pitched since May 19 last season and had surgery in August to repair a capsule tear and remove debris in his rotator cuff and biceps. He was hoping to be ready for the start of the season, but the White Sox placed him on the 15-day disabled list March 26. Danks had a career-high 15 victories for the White Sox in 2010, but he was 8-12 with a 4.33 ERA in 2011.

The White Sox optioned left-hander Donnie Veal to Class AAA Charlotte following Wednesday’s game against Boston.
