Naturals’ offense nonexistent in loss

The Corpus Christi Hooks couldn’t muster much offense Friday night at Whataburger Field. The Northwest Arkansas Naturals had even less.

Michael Foltynewicz and David Martinez held Northwest Arkansas to one hit and the Hooks scored a run in the seventh and eighth innings in a 2-0 victory to complete a three-game sweep in Corpus Christi, Texas. It was the Naturals’ fifth consecutive loss and their 11th in the past 12 games.

The Naturals, the worst-hitting team in the Texas League, managed only a lead off single by Roman Hernandez in the sixth inning, grounded into three double plays, had a runner picked off at first base after reaching on an error and another runner was caught stealing.

Foltynewicz held Northwest Arkansas hitless through five innings, and Martinez gave up a hit to Hernandez, the first batter he faced, but allowed only one other runner.

Corpus Christi scored a run in the seventh when Naturals starter Jason Adam hit Domingo Santana to start the inning, gave up a single to Erik Castro and another to Jonathan Meyer that drove in Santana.

In the eighth, Rene Garcia had an RBI double off reliever Matt Ridings that scored Jiovanni to make it 2-0.

The Naturals had only six batters reach base and none of them reached second as the Naturals were shut out for the fourth time this season.

Northwest Arkansas was swept for the fourth time this season.
