Little Portion offers retreat

EUREKA SPRINGS - John Michael Talbot will lead a retreat on monastic teachings June 7-9 at Little Portion Retreat and Training Center, 171 Hummingbird Lane. The retreat, “Francis and Benedict,” will teach participants about a balanced approach to gospel living as Talbot shares monastic wisdom found in the teachings of St. Francis and St. Benedict. The retreat is based on two of Talbot’s books, Reflections of St. Francis and Blessings of St. Benedict.

Talbot is the spiritual leader of the Brothers and Sisters of Charity at Little Portion Hermitage, a lay Catholic community in Berryville. An author and frequent retreat leader, he is also a wellknown musician.

Cost of the retreat is $225 and includes lodging for two nights and six meals. A $100 deposit is due with registration. Information and registration are available online at littleportion.org or by calling (479) 253-7379.

Nun will teach ‘Benedictine Way’

FORT SMITH - Sister Macrina Wiederkehr will lead a five-day retreat on “The Benedictine Way” June 9-15 at St. Scholastica Monastery’s retreat center, 1205 S. Albert Pike Ave.

Wiederkehr will talk about monastic spirituality as a pathway for spiritual growth and teach participants that they don’t need to live in a monastery to participate in monastic practices.

Cost of the retreat is $450 with a nonrefundable $50 deposit due at time of registration. The cost includes lodging for six nights, as well as meals. Information and registration are available online at stscho.org or by calling (479) 783-1135.

Temple to host meditation service

FAYETTEVILLE - Temple Shalom of Northwest Arkansas will have a meditative Shabbat service at 6 p.m. Friday. The service will be led by Rabbi Jacob Adler, who will use prayers as focal points for meditative practices.

Adler said meditation, or settled, focused attention, is an important element of prayer and an old practice in Judaism. All are welcome.
