The Buffalo National River Partners will host a talk by the river’s interpretive ranger Mike Simpson at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Boone County Library in Harrison. Simpson’s talk is titled “Canary in the Coal Mine.”

The discussion is designed to open a dialogue on climate change. Guests will learn about the basic recipe for the atmosphere and radiant sunlight that sustains all life.

They will see examples of changes at national parks due to climate change and hear about how they can reduce their carbon footprints. More information is available online at bnrpartners.org or by calling (870) 365-2881.

Horses for Healing to host golf event

The fifth annual Horses for Healing Benefit Golf Tournament will be May 31 at the Berksdale Golf Course in Bella Vista. The tournament was rescheduled because of snow in early May.

The tournament is a best-ball, four-man scramble with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Door prizes will be handed out to participants, and the top three teams will receive plaques.

Horses for Healing is a therapeutic riding program for special-needs children. More information is available by calling Stafford Wilson at (479) 254-3200, ext. 3253.

Devil’s Den plans outdoor sleepover

Devil’s Den State Park near West Fork will host “A Night in the Woods” June 13-14 for children who want to explore the outdoors. The program will introduce kids to camping and basic survival skills.

Participants will learn how to put up a tent, build a fire and catch a fish. Arts and crafts activities and games are also planned.

The sleepover starts at 10 a.m. June 13 and ends at 3 p.m.

June 14. The camp-out is recommended for ages 8 to 12.
