UAMS expands

Children’s bond

STUTTGART - A new agreement will allow the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences to extend its cooperation with Arkansas Children’s Hospital to other academic programs, UAMS leaders said.

The UAMS College of Medicine’s faculty and residents work in Children’s Hospital under an agreement established in 1982 and revised in 1995 and 1999.

The new agreement, approved by University of Arkansas trustees Thursday, will allow the two hospitals to explore further collaboration with UAMS’ other colleges, which include allied health, nursing, pharmacy and public health.

Bank sets Benton

acres for UALR

STUTTGART - First Security Bank plans to donate 9.1 acres to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock for the possible future expansion of its satellite education program in Benton.

After teaching classes there since 1975, UALR began offering a full bachelor’s degree in e-commerce in Benton in 2012.

Benton city leaders have said they plan to raise private funds to construct a new building for UALR’s programs, housed in a renovated middle school building, which is located on the property the bank plans to donate under an agreement with UALR and the Benton School District, a UA trustees proposal said.

UA Monticello

to offer 80 acres

STUTTGART - The University of Arkansas at Monticello plans to offer the Monticello Economic Development Commission the option to purchase 80.99 acres of property in Drew County in an agreement that will expire after one year.

The University of Arkansas board of trustees approved the agreement at a meeting in Stuttgart on Thursday.

The property, appraised at $85,500, may be used for the possible expansion of the Monticello Industrial Park, a board proposal said.

If the commission purchases the property, UA Monticello plans to harvest the timber for the property, which has an appraised value of $200,000, before the sale, the proposal said.

The land is part of a former World War II-era prisoner of war camp conveyed to UA Monticello in 1958. Parts of the property have been sold over the years for industrial development, and a part has been leased to the Drew County Livestock Show and Fair Association.
